Across the world Fab Labs have been adopted by artists as simply another set of tools to deliver creative and artistic outcomes.
In Ireland, Fab Lab was at the heart of David Best’s TEMPLE project which saw the US artist work with the city of Derry to construct a large scale wooden temple in the Fab Lab. A team of apprentices was recruited from local jobseekers and enrolled in OCN accreditations in Digital Manfacturing as part of the Temple Building team. Local school children also designed and built elements of the Temple in the Fablab as part of a digital skills and community relations programme. The Temple was then symbolically burned in a huge public arts spectacle that attracted over 100,000 people.
